2017 found the Chapter in Columbus, Ohio helping Habitat for Humanity MidOhio ReStore on Saturday, September 9. The ReStore receives dontations from a major retailer that must have the retailer's information removed before it hits the sales floor of the ReStore. That Saturday morning found three WICED Chapter members (Amber Armstrong, Sarah Rice and Eirene Knott) working along side with five PTN members (Tamara Hagerman, April Schrader, Jammie Newsome, Cindi Somers and Jessie Sorenson) and Eileen Kelley and Metropolitan Kansas City Chapter member Dave Byl. In four hours, our group got work done that would have taken ReStore staff two months to complete!

The Chapter's 2016 Habitat Build Day took place on Saturday, October 15 in Kansas City, Kansas. The Chapter partnered once again with members of PermitTechNation (PTN) and members from a couple of local ICC Chapters and had 18 volunteers, which included a few men! The group worked on a new house which was under construction by helping with three separate tasks.

One group sanded, primed and painted the front porch of the house. WICED Chapter member Lorraine Ross worked with PTN members Cindi Somers, Michele Miller and Dawn Neal. Eileen Kelley, mom to PTN member Jamie Newsome, also helped.

Another group hung all the doors and installed almost all of the trim. WICED member Amber Armstrong was joined by her nephew Jacob, an aspiring fire protection engineer, along with PTN members Tamara Hagerman, Jammie Newsome and Erin Scharf. Metropolitan Kansas City Chapter of the ICC member Erik Fitch also helped with the trim group.

The third group was tasked with building a deck on the back of the house. WICED Chapter members Sarah Rice, Evona Gardner, Liz Rider and Eirene Knott were joined by Sherri Bryant, wife of ICC Secretary/Treasurer Bill Bryant, and Judy Phipps, wife of ICC Board of Directors member Donny Phipps, along with Mike Stewart with the Kansas City Metro Association of Permit Technicians Chapter. There was an article about the day in the Building Safety Journal.

The Chapter's 2015 Habitat for Humanity build day took place on Saturday, September 26th. This year the Chapter partnered wtih the Habitat for Humanity of Orange County and provided volunteers for not only a build day but also helped in one of the local ReStores. WICED members Kecia Lara and Sarah Rice, along with Permit Tech Nation volunteers Michele Miller and Cindi Somers, installed a yard irrigation system. These women had a chance to interact with Habitat's Women Build program.

Two other Permit Tech Nation volunteers, Dawn Neil and Tamara Hagerman, helped the group at the ReStore. WICED members Amber Armstrong, Shirley Ellis and Eirene Oliphant were joined by Sherri Bryant, wife of ICC Board member Bill Bryant, and Judy Phipps, wife of ICC Board member Donny Phipps. This group cut linoleum rolls into 25 foot lengths, which was put on the sales floor before they left. Here's the link to ICC's photos from the 2015 ABM in Long Beach. Look for the WICED Habitat Build folder. Here's a link to the Building Safety Journal re-cap of the day.

The Chapter had a successful Habitat for Humanity build day in Fort Lauderdale. Click here to visit the ICC website for a brief blurb on our workday. There was also a write-up in one of the Building Safety Journals which can be viewed here.
